Small Business Saturday Gave Us More Than We Bargained For! The economy is broken! We have many many things to fix, where do we start? The holidays are coming fast and if you are fortunate to still be living in a home with a roof over your head you are one of the Lucky ones!
Tonight on the news, CBS Nightly News to be exact we watched a clip of a little girl standing side by side to her brother. They live in Florida in their car with their Father. She was asked what her feelings were about the situation? She answered that’s life isn’t it? I found myself thinking to myself, are these her actual feelings, or were they mimic-ed from someone like her Dad? She continued to speak about her and her families feelings, apparently her Mother died some years ago and they lost their house last year when the Construction worked dropped with no work available!
Apparently she and her brother also attend School with many other kids in the same situation. At the end of the interview She was asked if she could say anything what would she say? “When I see other kids my age I wonder if they are like myself and my family or are they different and more fortunate. If I hear the kids giving their Parents a bad time, yelling, wanting things in the Store or just being nasty it hurts me and I am saddened! I think to myself, Oh they need to be thankful for the family, house, life and what they have. Live as if this is your last day, because tomorrow you could wake up and be in the same position as myself and my family are today”! Those words and pictures have been burnt into my head and I have NOT been able to get that little girls face out of my head. We today are worried about the economy and what the Holidays are going to bring into the retail end of the business. I wanted to get in my car, travel across the United States and find this girl and her family and bring them home with me! We need to get a care package together and set it up so she and her family receive it before Christmas!
As a business owner these are very uncertain times to no avail! If we do not pitch in to help each other, our Society, this Country the United States is desperately in trouble! Then I also walk away from the situation thinking, I was so worried all day if I had gotten all the marketing done that I needed to do for the store, then it did not seem as important as it did earlier in the day!
